Our sweet baby girl Addyson turned five years old yesterday! Honestly, she's five!?! How on earth did that happen?? In honor of her fifth birthday she requested a Frozen birthday party. She is in love with movie and Elsa so this was not a surprise. When she picked the theme, I honestly didn't realize how fun it would be to plan for and decorate for her party! I didn't want commercial characters from Frozen... but more of an elegant white, blue and silver wonderland. I also surprised her with Elsa coming to her party. This was a major highlight and made the party perfect!
So as requested... here are a million photos (okay, I only took 222 during the party) and all the details about the party. It's all about the details people.
We had a full house of 11 little girls and 3 boys. The guests were greeted by snowflakes on the drive way leading to the front door. I made a template out of cardboard and drew them with chalk on the front walkway and used spray snow for the flakes on the backyard concrete.
I made a simple snowflake wreath for the front window using supplies from the dollar store. I am SO thankful her birthday falls right before Christmas when all the holiday stuff is out in the stores. It made things a lot easier for me!
Lucky for me, our daycare provider let me borrow a ginormous bag of blue and white tulle and other goodies that worked perfectly for the party. The bag also had this perfectly sparkly blue fabric for the backdrop. I hung our Christmas icicle lights in a zig-zag all the way up the wall behind the fabric. (I am kicking myself for not getting a picture of just the cake table.)
My Barbie cake went so well for Aubrey's party that I attempted to make an Elsa cake. This time I got smart and made an extra layer for the bottom so I could just saran wrap her body and we could save her (those dolls are hard to find right now!!) I found some candy snowflake sprinkles that made her skirt super easy to decorate.
I find cupcakes are easier and fast to hand out during the party rather than cutting the Elsa cake during the party. We'll enjoy the Elsa cake tonight for dessert! Lynnette found the most perfect silver sparkly sprinkles to use for our cupcakes and other goodies. I topped the cupcakes with a little snowflake that matched Elsa's dress.
These sparkly centerpieces turned out way better than I could have imagined. I found the frosted plant things at Michaels, filled the glass vase with sliver tissue paper, cut out a foam number five and used glue dots to attach to the front of the vase, set them onto one of my Christmas silver chargers and added some fun textured balls that I found in the Christmas section. That's the beauty of this party, all of these pieces I can reuse for Christmas decorations! Bonus.
The view looking into the living room from the kitchen.
I looked all over the internet for some sort of basic silver/grey or blue birthday banner that wasn't too commercial. I couldn't find a thing.... so I ended up creating my own. (If you'd like to download the printables from this party,
you can do that here.)
For party favors Addy helped me pick out some Frozen themed goodies. Each bag included a simple pencil, stickers, ring and bracelet. (The boys got Olaf stickers and an airplane shooter.) I attached Dollar Store snowflakes to the front of the bags with some ribbon to close the bag. We used blue ribbon for the boy bags to make it easier to pass out during the party, and silver for the girls.
There were so many fun treats and goodies that were Frozen themed that I just had to add in.
Chocolate covered Oreos. I found this snowflake mold in the Christmas section at Joann's.
Powdered sugar donut holes. Yes please!
On the kitchen table we had some 'real' snacks and more Frozen treats. Addy kept sneaking mini marshmallows before the party. She probably ate 100 of them yesterday!
Simple sandwiches from Costco.
Carrots and ranch dip.
Pretzel sticks.
Lynnette made delicious chocolate covered marshmallows with those fabulous silver sprinkles.
Water bottles with adorable labels.
I also found some pretty silver boxes at the Dollar Store that worked well for the silverware and napkin holders. I added raspberry for some frozen hearts as well.
A party wouldn't be a party without some chocolate covered popcorn... with some more silver sprinkles.
Now the actual party.... which took place for the most part, outside in the backyard. It was a nice day... only in California in November!
I had a table set up with some coloring posters Addy and I found in the dollar section at Target. Addy was very excited that her friends would be coloring them and then she got to keep them.
Another table had puzzles and a Frozen matching game that we already had on hand.
Due to the fact that we had a special visitor coming, we only played one game. The kids did a snowball toss into containers. We kept score and the boy and girl with the highest scores won a little prize. While we were in the middle of the game Elsa arrived!
Oh my goodness! This Elsa was gorgeous and had the kids mesmerized the moment she stepped out into the backyard! At first, she posed for pictures with each of the kids. Aubrey and several other little girls were too shy to take a picture! I couldn't believe it! Addy wasn't shy... she was SO excited!
Next up, Elsa sang Let It Go. I kind of expected the kids to sing along, but they were in awe and totally silent. Elsa was a very talented singer! Addy grinned the entire time. I think she honestly couldn't believe that Elsa would come to her birthday party!
Elsa played several games with the kids. She first did Red Light/Green Light but with Frozen words. It was pretty cute. Addy won the first round and got to call out the words for the second round. She was in heaven! Then Elsa hid snowflakes in the backyard and the kids had to find them. The first kids that found them got to hide them for the next round. The kids were running all over having a great time!
Next up, Elsa told an interactive story about Frozen. These kids know the story backwards and forwards! Then Elsa taught the kids a little princess lesson. They learned to wave, blow a kiss, twirl and curtsey like a princess (or a prince). They turned around and showed the parents all of their new moves. It was adorable!
We all came inside and Elsa sang Happy Birthday to Addy a cappella. It was amazing. Addy's face was so cute as Elsa and then everyone else sang to her.
She was in LOVE with Elsa and being in the spotlight. What a birthday to remember!
As the kids ate their cupcakes Elsa chatted with Addy and her friends. I guess Addy asked her if she would sing again... so she did. This time it was Coronation Day. So fun!
It was time to say good-bye to Elsa. She was so talented and beautiful!
After Elsa left Addy opened a huge pile of presents. It was a Frozen theme for sure! She was one very happy girl under that pile of gifts!
The one thing that Addy really wanted was a 'pinnada'. We've never done one before and thought we'd give it a try. Apparently the bat type are out and pull string pinatas are in. Well, our pull string didn't work so well... but we made it work and everyone went home with way too much candy and all the kids were happy.
Aubrey was a great helper and big sister during the party. It's tough to let your sister be in the spotlight... but Aubrey hung back and let Addy 'take the stage'. They are just so sweet together!
So I would say that Addy's Frozen party was an amazing success! She was able to share this incredible day with her friends and her family. It turned out so much better than I pictured it in my mind. I really had fun with this one. I am sure she and her friends will be talking about it for months to come.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ADDYSON!
You are so loved!!
